How to describe a website so you get a good one — and what all the pieces are called.

Most disappointing results come from one cause: the words used to ask for the site did not describe the site. "Make it modern and clean" is the instruction that produces the average of every website ever made, because that is literally what it asks for.

This guide is short. It teaches the vocabulary, shows the choices available, and explains why a few very common patterns make a page look machine-made. You do not need any design background.
